Nine reasons why I prefer the Kindle Paperwhite to all other reading devices
(except an actual book beautifully printed on high quality paper)
My daughter rolled her eyes when I got her a new Paperwhite to replace her old Kindle (purchased years ago when first invented), but new research on sleep disruption due to backlit screens (iphones, ipads, computers) makes me an even stronger partisan of the Kindle Paperwhite. It's simply much nicer to read on than the ipad, Kindle Fire, smartphones, PC or Mac screens or any tablet I've tried.
1) The screen.
Of all the ereading devices the Paperwhite most closely resembles the page of a real book. No glare. Not backlit. Easy to read with no fatigue on the eyes.
2) Weight.
Extremely light. Slips in a purse. I no longer put a cover on mine so there's no additional weight.
3) Kindle eBooks are shareable.
With up to eight other "devices" registered on the same Amazon account. In our family this means that when I buy an ebook from Amazon.com, my children and my husband can also enjoy the same book at no extra cost on their own Kindles as well as on their iphones, ipads, PCs and Macs.
4) Long battery life
Three MORE reasons (shared with other ereaders)!
5) Ease of highlighting, notetaking, searching, dictionary lookup...
6) Adjustable letter size
7) Adjustable lighting (you can dim the screen when reading in a dark bedroom - this is very relaxing).
Yet another four reasons (which apply to all ebooks, not just the Kindle or the Paperwhite)
8) Ebooks are less expensive, 9) take up no space, 10) are instantly available and 11) are not pulped
And last but not least:
9) there's no surfing on the internet with the Paperwhite.
And I hope Amazon keeps it this way. I personally find it impossible to really get into a book if distracted by the possibility of the internet or other media. An ereader should be, to my mind, for reading....
Note: I have no link to Amazon. Our family has used or uses extensively ipad, iphone, Kobo, Kindle Fire, Kindle touchscreen, Kindle keyboard, Kindle Paperwhite, PC, and Mac computers, and has, at one time or another read - or attempted to read - books on all these devices...
