Investigators searching for the owner told Le Parisien somewhat mysteriously that they were checking to see whether the gold might be linked to a "recent affair."
Can the voyageurs who found it can make a claim?
And what is the "recent affair"? I don't recall reading about gold bars going missing in Paris. Do you?

Just this in: the gold is fake!!! According to experts the as yet unidentified metal was covered with a thin golden layer. For what purpose? Fraud perhaps?
Our hearts go out to the subway driver and the RATP which had dreamed of splitting the treasure.
