Workshop attendees are welcome to bring a past example of their translation efforts but must bring at least 5 copies of the original and translation to share with the group. Tea and coffee will be provided.

CRITICAL & CREATIVE WORKS SOUGHT, including artwork,: for Technoculture: An Online Journal of Technology in Society, Vol. 2 Contact E-mail: kdorwick@tcjournal.org Website:http://tcjournal.org Inquiries: http://tcjournal.org/drupal/inquiriesWe seek papers from a broad range of academic disciplines that focus on issues that could be briefly summed as “technology and society,” or, perhaps,“technologies and societies.” Successful papers for Technoculture (http://tjcournal.org) should focus on the ways humanists read technology in a range of historical periods and of academic and artistic disciplines as the subject of their work or as a special case of cultural studies. Topics could include depictions of technologies that treat a wide range of subjects related to the humanities. For this second issue, we are especially interested in historical approaches that focus on "dead" or outdated technologies though articles and creative works on any technological subject are appropriate. These subjects might include: • Representations of technology in popular culture including movies and television • Fan reactions and appropriations of science fiction TV series, films and novels• Cultural uses of technology in a variety of cultures (not just the U.S.) • Old technologies and their uses • Ideological approaches to the understanding of a given technology or technologies • Artistic reactions to technology (technology as a subject for the arts) • Use of technology by artists • Social media • War Equipment • Games, game equipment, and gamers • Visions for new technologies (either critical articles that look toward the future or creative works) In particular, we are interested in a conception of “technology” and the “humanist impulse” that pushes beyond contemporary American culture and its fascination with computers; we seek papers that deal with any technology or technologies in any number of historical periods from any relevant theoretical perspective. We will publish art work and media in a variety of media (but designed for display on a computer monitor) including still images, video or audio. Inquiries are welcome at http://tcjournal.org/drupal/inquiries. Calendar Please submit article proposals/abstracts for critical articles (the "journal article") by June 15, 2011. The editorial staff will then request full length drafts from those abstracts still under consideration. Length: For print texts, we seek 6,000 to 7,500 word manuscripts. Creative works in any genre may vary wildly and may be submitted via our web submission form by October 1, 2011. Creative Works Due: October 1, 2011 for immediate review. Calendar for Critical Works: Article Proposals/Abstracts Due: June 15, 2011. Publication: August 15, 2012.
