One of the big mysteries for foreign students in France is why the libraries are so frequently closed. According to Les Echos, France is well under the European standard (less than 60 hours a week compared to 65 in Europe). When you factor in strikes and real availability, it's probably even worse.
Students had been quietly complaining about the state of the libraries for years, even staging a pyjama sit-in at the Law library in Nancy (see Le Monde).
Valérie Pécresse, Minister of Higher Education, is expected to announce the details of the plan soon.
